M.Tech. (ECE) with specialization - VLSI & Embedded Systems

Overview

The VLSI and Embedded Systems in M.Tech. program covers the fundamentals and engineering aspect of designing and developing IC based systems. Traditionally VLSI technology has emerged out as a successful conglomeration of two streams: material science and electrical engineering. The state of the art VLSI technology requires research in physical devices as well as novel design and development of electrical circuit. The program will focus on developing hands-on skill of designing semiconductor devices and circuits, architecting systems using embedded components such as, CPU, memory and peripherals. Students will be trained in several topics that cut across different domain, starting from lowermost level of physical devices to the top level of application development.

Program Structure

As per M.Tech. regulations, a student is required to complete 12 credits (all the courses) from core bucket and 8 credits to get specialization in VLSI and Embedded Systems. Overall 48 credits must be completed to get M.Tech. degree with VLSI and Embedded Systems specialization.

Core Courses

Three courses constitute the core of this stream. These are:

  • Digital VLSI Design
  • Analog CMOS Circuit Design
  • Advanced Embedded Logic

Internship

While internships during summer is not a requirement for the M.Tech. degree, students are encouraged to do an internship to gain industry experience. To facilitate internships, the institute has made arrangements with some corporations to host interns from this program.

The Institute has signed an MOU with ST Microelectronics, NOIDA, for partnering in the program by ST offering some high-end industry-oriented courses, opportunities for internship at ST, joint guidance of some thesis, etc.
